Purpose and Privacy

Congratulations on choosing to join the debate team. Your team participates as a member of the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues (NAUDL). NAUDL and our parnter leagues (PL) work to promote debate opportunities for students across the country. Registration forms gather information about debaters essential to the operation of a partner league.  Your league may share information with the NAUDL. PL and NAUDL use information to improve and grow urban debate programs. PL and NAUDL may use data to measure your academic progress.  PL and NAUDL do not share, sell, rent or trade personally identifiable information with third parties for their promotional purposes.

Boston Urban Debate League Parent/Guardian Consent
I, the parent/guardian of the above named student, understand that in order for my child to participate in the Debate Program, I must provide information for section 1 and 2 and  consent to the following:

I give my child permission to participate in all Boston Debate League programming. I understand that programming will be held online and in-person, and that my student may be recorded or photographed. I give BDL and NAUDL permission to use videos and images of my student for media, publicity, and educational purposes. Any direct interviews or mentions of my student by name will require an additional consent form.

I authorize the Boston Debate League to email, call and send text messages with updates and information about the program to the contacts provided in sections 1 and 2.

In order for Chicago Debates to understand the impact of debate on my child’s academic performance and to better serve my child and other students, I consent to the release of my child’s educational records from Chicago Public Schools to Chicago Debates for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years.  I understand that education records may include: CPS Student ID number, Attendance, Discipline, Grades, Standardized Test Scores, etc. I understand that this is optional and participation in programming is not contingent upon this release.

I hereby grant permission to Chicago Debates, or persons contracted by Chicago Debates, to record, film, photograph, tape and otherwise capture and reproduce in any manner my child’s name, voice, likeness and performance. I grant permission to Chicago Debates to publish in print, electronic, or video format my child's likeness, image and/or information obtained during Chicago Debates’ programming, including, but not limited to, participation in debate practices, tournaments and Chicago Debates sponsored events, for public relations, educational, or any other lawful purposes. I further agree that my child's name and identity may be revealed in connection with the likeness or image.  Additionally, Chicago Debates shall have the right and license to use any biographical materials that my child provides in connection with their participation in Chicago Debates programming and tournaments. Furthermore, I agree to release and hold harmless Chicago Debates, the members, trustees, agents, officers, contractors, volunteers, and employees of each from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, complaints, suits or other forms of liability that may arise out of or by reason of or be caused by the use, production, distribution and promotion of the Recordings. I agree that Chicago Debates shall not be obligated to pay me or any third party any sum whatsoever, regardless of the time or method for any future use of the Recordings. All negatives, positives, prints, digital reproductions, and video recordings shall be the property of Chicago Debates. I release all claims against Chicago Debates with respect to copyright ownership and publication including any claim for compensation related to use of the materials.

Dallas Urban Debate Alliance Guardian Authorization
Media Release:

I, the parent or legal guardian of the participant completing this survey, grant permission to Dallas Urban Debate Alliance staff to take photographs and video/audio recordings of my child in connection with their participation in DUDA events. I also grant permission to DUDA to publish in print, electronic, or video format the likeness of my child – without compensation – for public relations, educational, or any other lawful purposes. Data Release:

I authorize the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance and its partner organization, the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues (NAUDL), to collect self-reported demographic information from my student through this survey. I grant permission to DUDA and NAUDL to use this data for the purpose of evaluating the scope and impact of its programs. I grant permission to DUDA and NAUDL to use this data – with personally identifying information removed – to prepare reports for community partners and donors. I also grant permission to DUDA and NAUDL to distribute additional surveys to students to gauge the impact that participation in debate may have on student success.

I give permission for the Miami-Dade Urban Debate League (MDUDL) to record, photograph, and/or video my child, during MDUDL events and activities. I understand that my child’s name, image, and/or voice may be used in MDUDL promotional materials, websites, social media, and publications to highlight student participation and promote the program.



Nashville Urban Debate League Parent/Guardian Consent and Media Release
I, the parent/guardian of the above named student, understand that in order for my child to participate in the Debate Program, I must consent to the following:

I give my child permission to participate in all Nashville Debate League programming. I understand that programming will be held online and in-person, and that my student may be recorded or photographed. I give NUDL and NAUDL permission to use videos and images of my student for media, publicity, and educational purposes. 



New York City Urban Debate League Consent Form
Parent/Guardian Consent


Permission to participate in the New York City Urban Debate League (NYCUDL). I do hereby consent that my child may participate in the stated activity, and in consideration for the NYCUDL giving its time and of such activity, do hereby personally on behalf of my child, absolve and release the NYCUDL, its agents and volunteers from any claim of mental, emotional or physical personal injuries which might be sustained by my child while participating in such activities, or while returning to his/her home and/or participating in online NYCUDL run events.  I agree that I am fully responsible for my child during NYCUDL online events.



Media Consent.


I, hereby grant permission to the  NYCUDL, or persons contracted by the NYCUDL, to take photographs and/or video/audio recordings of my child in connection with his/her participation in the NYCUDL for the 2026-2027 school year. In addition, and without limiting any other provision of this Consent, for the purposes of a documentary series in development by Made-By-Hand, LLC in connection with the NYCUDL, I also give unrestricted permission to Made-By-Hand, LLC and its assigns to record and edit photographs, video, sounds, voice, and media of my child in connection with his/her participation in the NYCUDL for the 2026-2027 school year for the documentary project currently titled "Up for Debate" without limitations, in perpetuity, and in all media.

Furthermore, I grant permission to the NYCUDL to publish in print, electronic, or video format the likeness or image of my child obtained during the 2026-27 school year for public relations, educational, or any other lawful purposes. I further agree that my child’s name and identity may be revealed in connection with the likeness or image. I authorize the use of my child’s likeness or image without compensation to my child or me. All negatives, positives, prints, digital reproductions, and video recordings shall be the property of the NYCUDL barring the recordings by Made-By-Hand, LLC and its assigns in which case, Made-By-Hand, LLC will retain ownership.


Online Rules


I acknowledge that the NYCUDL aims to provide a positive learning experience for all participants via an advanced academic program for mature elementary, junior high and high school students. I agree to respect the rights and feelings of other NYCUDL students and staff. These rules are not meant to be exhaustive and the NYCUDL is not a “sanctuary” for conduct that violates state and/or federal law.


I acknowledge that the NYCUDL staff and volunteers are  here to provide meaningful learning experiences  and will not be distracted by students who are unable to engage responsibly with others. As a result, I understand that students who violate NYCUDL communal norms may be temporarily or permanently restricted from participating in an activity or activities. Remove students will not receive any refund of fees.


Rules of Conduct


1. Attendance at all classes is required if participating  in a direct instructional program.


2. Although students are at home, they are expected to dress in a manner appropriate for an educational setting. Clothing will be deemed inappropriate if it is disturbing to other students or in any way interferes with the educational process. Students are prohibited from wearing clothing and accessories that: have slogans, comments or designs that are obscene, lewd or vulgar; advertise alcoholic beverages, tobacco products or illegal drugs; are directed against or intended to demean individuals based on sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, color, ancestry, national origin, ethnicity, religion, etc. Students wearing clothing deemed inappropriate will be asked to change such clothing.


3. The password students are given to enter classrooms.debate.nyc are confidential and should never be shared with anyone


4. Any other technological location references to the room should not be shared with anyone.

New York City Urban Debate League Student Code of Conduct
All school and District policies are in effect during NYCUDL debate season.  Students must:
(1) Show courtesy and respect toward others and property at all times.
(2) Dress appropriately at all times.
(3) Use appropriate language. 

Statement of Disciplinary Action
The following are examples of disciplinary action which may be taken in the event that the Code of Conduct, school policies, or district policies are not followed:
(1) Sent home immediately at his/her own expense.
(2) Referred to school administration.

Portland Urban Debate League Media Release


I, parent or official guardian of the minor named above hereby grant permission to the National Association for Portland Urban Debate League (PUDL), or persons contracted by PUDL, to take photographs and/or video/audio recordings of my child in connection with their participation in the Portland Urban Debate League, including, but not limited to, participation in PUDL tournaments, afterschool programming, the PUDL Summer Workshops and/or the NAUDL Annual Dinner. Furthermore, I grant permission to NAUDL and PUDL to publish in print, electronic, or video format my child’s likeness, image and/or information obtained during their participation in PUDL programming for public relations, educational, or any other lawful purposes. I further agree that my child’s name and identity may be revealed in connection with the likeness or image.

I authorize the use of my child’s likeness or image without compensation to me. All negatives, positives, prints, digital reproductions, and video recordings shall be the property of PUDL. I release all claims against PUDL with respect to copyright ownership and publication including any claim for compensation related to use of the materials.
